SEMA 2019 - 07’ MT-01

The MT-01ST is a retrofit project built over a 2007 Yamaha MT-01.

"Originally unveiled as a concept motorcycle at the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show,

Strong public interest in the machine led Yamaha to develop a production model, which was released in 2005 by non other than Valentino Rossi.[5][6] The Motorcycle Design Association (MDA) awarded the MT-01 the Open Category award at the 2004 annual Motorcycle Design Awards at INTERMOT.[7] During its production, the MT-01 remained largely unchanged."

The MT-01 is known to be the bike that originated the NAKED style bikes that still thrive in Today’s motorcycle world.

Originally purchased in Canada, our MT-01 has been brought through DOT and EPA through a Registered Importer and now has Arizona Plates.  To our knowledge our bike is the only Yamaha MT-01 officially registered in the USA.

Three years ago our small Brazilian based Motor Shop specialized in RETROFIT

came across this bike.  We were amazed at the combination of huge Japanese Motor, with its Twin Raw Torque together with Racetrack body and cyclability.

However, as we expected, many of its factory “cool" elements were "just for show”.

The mission was clear...

Starting with Power - 90hp

Solution:

Super Charge the beast!  We designed and laser cut a aluminum support, designed 2 stage gearing to maximize the performance with a Rotrex C30-72 Centrifugal Supercharger - which added 12PSI and 50HP to the mix at top speed.

In order to further reduce weight and further improve ridebility, the factory headers gave way to a beautiful Titanium Akrapovic full exhaust system

The bike was tested on multiple Tracks and dynoed at our Partner JESKAP.

We increased the power to 140 hp and Torque to 200 Nm, as well as elevating the top speed from 211Km/hr to close to 250km/hr.  But what was best was to able to ride better than most race bikes on curves, as well last catch the “real” bikes on the straightway.

But another problem arose…  By offsetting the center of gravity - We lost track riding ergonomics!

Solution:

in 2017 the first version with Twin C15-60 Rotrex superchargers was born.  Two light weight aluminum laser cut and folded supports transferred the raw power from the crank with belts and pulleys.  After feeding one Super Charger, this motion was reversed by gears and transferred by a long 10 “ Titanium shaft to the other side of the bike to feed the right side Super Charger for unequaled Power.

Other elements we transformed:

our SEMA Sponsor L.A. Sleeves is responsible for the larger displacement and adjusting the cylinder specs for the 20+ PSI boost upgrade on the MT01ST.

L.A. Sleeves has cylinder and sleeves not only for for this Yamaha MT-01 model that utilizes the same 1670 cc cylinder as Yamaha’s US Road Star Warrior model, but offers many sizes and pressures for many metric and US made bikes as well as other high end and race vehicles.

One of the small C15-60 Rotrex supercharger was replaced for a larger C30-72 Rotrex supercharger.  The Original Yamaha exhausts were replaced for Custom built Titanium headers and stainless exhaust system designed by our partner JESKAP successfully counter balancing the Super Charger with a GT28 Garret TURBO.

AIR INTAKE:

The FAKE Automotive LOOK ALIKE air intakes were turned into REAL functional FILTERED intakes for the Cetrifucal Chargers on each side.

PLENUM:

Following the Intake’s the space for the Factory Air Filter is taken up by a light thin Circular Vortex forming Plenum box that combines and maximizes efficiently from the extra boost coming from both the Supercharger and the TurboCharger.

Original Stage I components including ECU were replaced to Custom Stage III elements.

our SEMA Sponsor DYNOJET is responsible for providing our bike with Power Commander V which provides the  full fuel control adjustments for the entire range of operation.   Provided Rebootech with POD-300, arming us with full Display  and adjustments for all of the bike’s features from Boost, AFR to temperature.  AutoTune tm with precise real time Lambda control on both cylinders as well as easy Fuel by Pressure control for a safe and dynamic adjustment for 10-20psi building up on Custom built circular plenum.

Rear lights signals and effects enriched the most important part of the bike:

SEAT:

Our Partner Pedrinho’s Bancos with 50 years of experience in custom building seats for motorbikes in Brazil, helped us design a Seat that mixed the Auto World to our world on two wheels.
